Newry City AFC are delighted to announce the signing of Shane Forbes.
The attacking midfielder, who turns 21 next month, arrives at The Showgrounds following a spell in the Sports Direct Premiership with Carrick Rangers for the second half of last season.
A product of the Shelbourne Youth Academy, Shane last breakthrough season came in 2024 with Athlone Town, where he made 25 appearances in the League of Ireland First Division.
He impressed in Saturday’s friendly away to Leinster Senior League side Kilbarrack United, scoring the second goal in a 3-3 draw in Dublin.
“I’m looking forward to the season ahead and getting game time at Newry,” said Forbes after becoming Stuart King’s latest signing.
“This season is all about getting the club back up the leagues and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
“We’re delighted to get Shane on board,” said King.
“It took a lot of work behind the scenes, but I feel he will be an important member of the squad. He’s quick, sharp, has an eye for goal and is different to everyone we have. I think he will become a fan favourite and after his performance on Saturday in Dublin, I’m delighted he has agreed to sign.
“I would like to put on record my thanks to the Chairman and board members who helped make this happen.”
