Newry City AFC link up with Midway Utd

Newry City AFC are delighted to announce our link up with Midway Utd FC.

Newry First Team Manager Darren Mullen commented “I first met up with the Midway committee last year and there was an eagerness on both sides to create this link. They are an extremely well run club that have provided us with 9 of last year’s senior squad. The plan is for both clubs to work hand in hand to ensure that the best players in the Newry area are given the best possible opportunity to play Irish League football at The Showgrounds. As a club it’s vital that we continue to have a spine of local players at the club and Midway have shown great leadership in being the first local club to take this step. We have already started integrating some of their players at training and will continue to work closely with their players and coaches over the coming months. I would like to thank everyone involved with Midway in what I’ve no doubt will be a very productive link for both clubs.”

When asked what this project means to Midway United Youth FC, Pat McGivern said: “The whole club is excited and appreciative of Newry City AFC selecting us to partner with them. The project fits in nicely with the club’s exit strategy which is to ensure every young person entering their last year with the club has had the opportunity to avail of the best coaching and life skills during their 13 years with the club. We are confident that with the support and direction given by Newry City AFC, our club will become stronger and more professional in its approach to coaching. Hopefully in years to come we will be seeing some of our ex-players wearing the blue and white strip jersey of Newry City AFC.”

All at Newry City AFC would like to congratulate and wish Midway Utd all the best with their 30th Year Celebrations in the coming weeks.
